Passport for Literacy and Family Literacy Day
January 21-27, times vary by location
Ages - your whole family! Cost: FREE
Get your free "Passport for Literacy" at any Perth County public library and have fun! "Passport to Literacy" is a literary spin off the popular family trend geocaching. From January 21-27, pick up your Passport to Literacy at the library, then using coordinates (or addresses if you don't have a GPS) to find checkpoints throughout your community. Once your passport is filled, return to the library where you will be entered in a draw for great prizes

Monster Madness
Festival Marketplace Shopping Centre | January 5, 2-4pm | FREE
Looking for something to do with your children during the Christmas holidays?  Bring your "monsters" out to Festival Marketplace Shopping Centre for a wild and wonderful time.  Activities will be based on the popular children's book "Where the Wild Things Are".  Help us create a jungle, build Max's boat and let the wild rumpus begin!!!  Children will enjoy creating monster puppets, making Monster Mud, decorating crowns and participating in a wild story time  This free drop-in event is in partnership with Early Years Centre, Public Library on Wheels (PLOW) and Festival Marketplace Shopping Centre.   We extend a wild welcome to monsters of all ages!

Family Literacy Day 2008
Stratford Festival Marketplace, Public Library on Wheels, Perth- Middlesex Early Years Centers, and the Avon Maitland District School Board partnered together to bring an Enchanted Adventure to the Stratford Festival Marketplace, January 26 2008, 10am - 3pm.
Children were able to meet their favorite Nursery Rhyme and Fairy Tale characters. Kids were given "autograph books"  collect autographs from their favorite characters. Performances by local musicians, story teller and performers. The Early Years Center provided a craft area and stories were read by John Wilkinson, Dan Mathieson and others at the mall's centre court. Lots of draws for books were held throughout the day. There were over 3000 people at the mall during the Enchanted Adventure! What a fantastic turn out and an amazing event!

Optimism Place
Story time held every other every other Tuesday 4pm - 5pm, January 8, 22, and February 5 and 19. Story and craft time. This program is open to Optimism Place clients only.

Bard of Avon Housing Co-operative

2007 Family Literacy Day - Amazing Phrase
"Calling all families!! Do you ever watch the Amazing Race? Have you ever wanted to be a part of it? Now you can! You are invited to participate in the Amazing Phrase, a literacy spin-off of the popular TV show – right in your own town! Families with children of all ages are welcome to participate in this fun-filled event to celebrate Family Literacy Day. Your family can participate on whatever day works best for you between Monday January 22, 2007 and noon on Family Literacy Day Saturday January 27.

Your list of Amazing Phrase locations will be available at your local public library (Stratford, Mitchell or Milverton). After you pick up the list and map, you will visit each checkpoint, and the participating businesses will make sure you complete your challenge before giving you your letter clue.  When you have collected all your letters, unscramble them to discover the phrase and return your form to the library by noon January 27. Prizes will be awarded to winners drawn from the completed correct entries at your public library on Saturday, January 27, 2007 at 2 p.m. This Family Literacy Day event is brought to you by Public Library On Wheels and the Perth-Middlesex Early Years Centre. Special Guest - Tuesday April 17 at 9:30 a.m. popular storyteller Mary Eileen McClear will enchant the participants with her exceptional storytelling talents in the gymnasium of Sprucedale Public School. Join Ms. McClear as she engages the audience with a variety of exciting stories. This program is free and families and caregivers with preschoolers are encouraged to attend.
