Local Employment Resources

What are some of the online resources that can provide job searching and career information and help to residents of Perth County? For a start, check out the web site links below

Career Cruising
All aspects of the job search process are covered on this comprehensive database: resumes, cover letters, interview strategies and how-to’s for starting a new job. You can try the Career Matchmaker Quiz and access other assessment tools, occupational profiles, online job boards, company job sites and information about post-secondary education in Canada. Career Cruising can be used within the Stratford Public Library or from your home, and a library card is required.
HINT: Check out the books, DVD’s and other resources in the Stratford Public Library’s “Career Centre”, located on our main floor.

Looking for great online resources on resume writing, interviewing, and career development? Look no further than the new SPL Career Resource webpage. Here you will also find links to books in the library catalogue on a variety of career related topics.

Perth County JOBS on Facebook
A new local resource, Perth County JOBS on Facebook, is intended for both those searching for jobs, and businesses hoping to hire new employees.

City of Stratford Business Directory
Stratford’s business/industry directory includes both large and smaller enterprises.

Partners in Employment
Helping people in Perth and Huron Counties to find jobs is the focus of the Partners in Employment Agency, with offices in Stratford, Listowel and St. Marys. The Agency also provides help to employers. One-on-one job counseling is available for all job seekers, including mature adults, students, people with disabilities and those new to the community

Stratford Perth Centre for Business
If you would like to be self-employed and begin your own business, the Stratford Perth Centre for Business would be a definite starting point for you. As “one-stop resource”, the Centre offers valuable information, consulting and training (eg. HST training and the Start to Success program) for those intending to start or expand their business. The Centre can also provide some funding. Check the Centre’s web site for a local business directory and community data/profile.

Conestoga College: Job Connect
Click on “Job Connect” to learn about this program which serves both job seekers and potential employers. Conestoga College is one of many Ontario colleges offering the Job Connect program. The College’s Career Centre also provides employment and skills counseling to job seekers and those about to make a career change.

Job Bank – Service Canada
The Job Bank, also available from the web sites of Service Canada (www.servicecanada.gc.ca) and Human Resources & Skills Development Canada (www.hrsdc.gc.ca) , offers job listings (updated daily), and tools to help with skill assessment, choosing a career, creating a resume, and more. Students will also find the Job Bank to be helpful, as well as the listing of Service Canada Centres for Youth (usually open from May to August).

Employment Ontario
A website for job seekers, students, employees and employers in Ontario, Employment Ontario provides information about adult learning, retraining, apprenticeship training, college and university programs, the labour market, literacy and basic skills and the Second Career Program. Also, the Ontario Job Bank can be accessed from the Employment Ontario web site.

Ontario Skills Passport
What are the essential skills and work habits required and used in virtually all jobs? How can they be acquired? Use OSP (Ontario Skills Passport) to find out. Various skills assessment tools are offered on this web site, as well as samples of resumes and cover letters for job hunting.
