Computer Training

The Stratford Public Library has designed a number of classes to help you get comfortable using a computer and the Internet.

  • Each class is a one time session and does not repeat (although people do like to take sessions again as a refresher!)
  • Sessions are limited to six people. 
  • Participants will use a laptop for hands-on training. 
  • Participants will receive a take-home manual that provides step-by-step instructions on what was covered during the session

Computer Comfort, $10.00
This class is perfect for the beginner. It will cover how to use a mouse and keyboard, open and close a program, create files and navigate menus.  Training computers use Windows 7.
Come 10 minutes early to practice using the mouse!

Internet Basics for Beginners, $10.00
Struggling to wade through the sea of information online? Learn how to find what you’re looking for and make sure it’s from a trusted source.
Basic ability to type and use a mouse is required.

  • Tuesday April 10, 6-8:30pm
  • Friday May 4, 2-4:30pm

Savvy Searching Session, $10.00
Improve your Internet research skills using advanced search functions on different search engines.  Learn to search using Internet math, phrases, special syntax, and how to use the Invisible Web. 
Ability to type, use a mouse and knowledge of how to navigate the Internet is required.

Easy Gmail Email, $10.00
Register for a free Gmail account and learn how to send and receive e-mail. 
Ability to type, use a mouse and knowledge of how to navigate the Internet is required.

E-Mail Attachments and More, $5.00
Learn more about sending and receiving e-mail and sending file and photo attachments. Must have an active web based e-mail account to register (ie. Hotmail, Gmail, Yahoo). Users must bring email account and password to class.
Ability to type, use a mouse and knowledge of how to navigate the Internet is required.

Microsoft Word Basics, $10.00
For beginners, this class introduces the basic features of Microsoft Word 2007. You will learn how to enter and format text, change margins and line spacing, and copy and paste text. Saving and printing tips will also be discussed.
Ability to type and use a mouse is required.

Microsoft Excel Basics, $10.00
For the beginner, this class is an introduction to spreadsheets using Microsoft Excel 2007. This session provides a basic overview and common uses for spreadsheets. Learn basic Excel functions and build a simple budget spreadsheet.
Ability to type and use a mouse is required.

Get Social on Facebook, $5
Learn about social media using Facebook, the world's largest social networking website. You can easily connect with old friends and keep up to date with family, friends, and co-workers.
Ability to type, use a mouse, navigate the Internet is required. Participants must have an active web based e-mail account.
